About
Elisa Soster is a highly versatile soprano with a repertoire ranging from early music to contemporary works. In the 23/24 season she will return to Opera Ballet Vlaanderen to create the role of Émélia in the world premiere of Brodeck by Daan Janssens, based on Le Rapport de Brodeck by Philippe Claudel. She'll also make her house debut at Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam.
As a member of the young ensemble of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen from the 20/21 season until the 22/23 season, she has performed in operatic roles such as Sophie in Massenet's Werther, Najade in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos, Clio in the world premiere of Neyrinck's Kruistocht, Noth in Schumann's Szenen aus Goethes Faust, Giovanna in Ernani and Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro. Her other debuted roles include Gilda in Rigoletto at the Magnitogorsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, Serpina in Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona, Sandrina in Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera and Mélisande in a reduction of Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande. In concert, she has sung Mahler's Symphony No. 4, conducted by Alejo Pérez, Carmina Burana by Orff, St. John's Passion, as well as numerous cantatas by Bach, Fauré's Requiem, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and Boccherini's Stabat Mater. Equally passionate about contemporary repertoire, she collaborates regularly with various contemporary music ensembles such as HERMESensemble and SPECTRA ensemble and with many composers including Nigel Osborne, for whom she created the role of Caterina in the world premiere of Silent City, Wim Henderickx, for whom she sang Revelations, A Matter of Triumph and Void, and was the understudy for the title role in his world premiere of The Convert, and Thanos Chrysakis, for whom she premiered his new composition Magnetic Horizon. She also sang Sarah was Ninety Years Old by Arvo Pärt in Meryl Tankard's acclaimed ballet Furioso.
In the 23/24 season she will create the role of Émélia for the world premiere of Daan Janssens's Brodeck, conducted by Marit Strindlund and directed by Fabrice Murgia. She has performed at, among others, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Staatsoper Stuttgart, BOZAR, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, Opéra de Lille, Concertgebouw in Bruges, Minardschouwburg in Ghent and Magnitogorsk Opera Ballet and Theatre, under the baton of Giedrė Šlekytė, Alejo Pérez, Koen Kessels, Marie Jacquot, Duncan Ward, Philippe Herreweghe, Clemens Jüngling, Julia Jones, Alessandro Palumbo and with directors David Alden, Ivo van Hove, Guy Joosten, Julian Rosefeldt, Femke Gyselinck, Lukas Dhont, James Bonas, Barbora Horáková, Philine Rinnert and Meryl Tankard. |
She studied singing and flute at the Aosta Valley Conservatory. In 2019, she obtained her postgraduate degree with the highest distinction at the International Opera Academy in Ghent, Belgium.
